join our community of change.

Donate your time and help our unhoused neighbors return home.

volunteer now

For 30+ years we’ve had volunteers by our side doing the work necessary to support people experiencing homelessness in Berkeley. Below are just some of the ways you can make a difference.

help prepare meals

Our kitchen is always buzzing as we make 500+ meals a day for our unhoused neighbors. From 7am to 6pm, you can find a 2-hour shift that needs your help chopping, stirring, assembling, dishwashing, cleaning, and serving meals.

organize our community closet

We receive generous donations of clothing, shoes, hygiene products, and more from the community. We need your help to sort, size and organize it so our unhoused neighbors can easily find whatever they need.

join in grassroots outreach

Pick a day to join us in our outreach efforts. Tuesdays you can help us partner with Christ Church in Berkeley and serve coffee and donuts to our unhoused neighbors. Wednesdays you can support us as we host a pop-up pantry in our main shelter parking lot and distribute to-go bags of items that may include anything from water, shelf-stable food to personal care supplies to anyone in need. Fridays you can ride along on visits to encampments. Help load our truck and trailer with groceries, meals and toiletries, and help us distribute these items to people around Berkeley.

participate in our summer teen program

High school students are invited to spend a week of their summer with us to experience operating a non-profit organization. This is a great community service opportunity for students to gain insight into our local unhoused community as well as see what it’s like to work in social services.

Applications for summer 2024 are here. We’d love to have you with us!

pitch in at Dorothy’s Closet

Coming Soon! Our brand new thrift shop will need volunteers to help process donations and run our retail space. We’ll keep you posted!
