Dorothy Day House's
Berkeley Emergency Storm Shelter

Men and women who endure chronic homelessness often suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, and physical challenges. Their safety is especially fragile during the winter months without a safe place to sleep.

On nights when it rains or when temperatures drop below 45 degrees, we run our Berkeley Emergency Storm Shelter (BESS)  at: Old City Hall, 2134 Martin Luther King Way.

For the duration of the pandemic, we have been asked to make the BESS 24/7 over the winter.
